ABSLTA is the leading organisation for British Sign Language (BSL) teachers and assessors in the UK. We support professionals in BSL teaching, Deaf Awareness, Deaf Studies, Deafblind communication, and BSL Interpreting. Our members include Deaf BSL Teachers, Instructors, Teaching Assistants, BSL Therapists, and Teacher Trainees.

Membership Levels
Associate Membership
£34.45 a year
For BSL professionals who do not hold a Level 3 teaching qualification in BSL but are actively involved in BSL-related work or who are interested in joining the ABSLTA community but may not yet be working professionally as BSL teachers.
Benefits include:
- Access to ABSLTA’s resources, including teaching materials
- Invitations to member-only events, training, and workshops
- Access to mentoring and CPD programs (The Lounge)
- Discounts on conferences and events
- Ability to register as an Associate member with ABSLTA
- Post-nominal: AABSLTA (Associate of ABSLTA)
Full Membership (MABSLTA)
£42.40 a year
For individuals actively working as BSL teachers, assessors, or related professionals who hold an AET Level 3 or above teaching qualification in BSL.
Benefits include:
- Full access to ABSLTA’s resources, including teaching materials
- Invitations to member-only events, training, and workshops
- Access to mentoring and CPD programs
- Ability to register as a BSL teacher with ABSLTA
- Discounts on conferences and events
- Voting rights at the AGM
- Post-nominal: MABSLTA (Member of ABSLTA)
Fellow Membership
£42.40 a year
For individuals actively working as BSL teachers, assessors, or related professionals who hold an AET Level 3 or above teaching qualification in BSL and have 10 or more years of experience in BSL teaching.
Benefits include:
- Full access to ABSLTA’s resources, including teaching materials
- Invitations to member-only events, training, and workshops
- Access to mentoring and CPD programs
- Ability to register as a BSL teacher with ABSLTA
- Discounts on conferences and events
- Voting rights at the AGM
- Ability to self-nominate for Fellow status
- Post-nominal: FABSLTA (Fellow of ABSLTA)
