Community
Working Together, Sharing Ideas, Making a Difference
ABSLTA is proud to be active in the BSL teaching community. We take part in events, lead workshops, give talks, and run our own conference. These activities help us support BSL teachers, promote good teaching practice, and raise awareness of the importance of BSL education across the UK.
By being out in the community, we connect with new and experienced BSL teachers, learners, and organisations. We share knowledge, listen to what people need, and make sure Deaf-led teaching stays at the heart of BSL education.
Our events also give us a chance to promote the work of ABSLTA, encourage new members to join, and build strong partnerships with others in the field.
What We Do
Conference
BSL Horizon – Manchester
Our yearly conference brings BSL teachers, learners, and supporters together. It’s a chance to share ideas, learn from each other, and celebrate the work being done in BSL education.

Workshops
Training for Members and Non-Members
We run workshops to help improve teaching skills, share new ideas, and support professional development (CPD). These are open to both members and non-members.

Stalls
Meeting the Community
We run stalls at events such as City Lit’s Deaf Day, where we share information about ABSLTA and talk to BSL teachers, students, and supporters.

Talks
Sharing Our Voice at Events
ABSLTA speakers take part in national and international events – like LESICO 4 in Edinburgh – to talk about BSL education and share our experience.
