We’re thrilled to share the highlights from our recent 35th Annual General Meeting, which took place via Zoom. It was fantastic to see so many members from across the UK come together for this event, and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved in the 2023-24 year!

Key Updates:

New Committee Members and Revamped CPD Sessions

Since last July, we’ve welcomed three new committee members who joined us at City Lit in London. Their arrival marked the beginning of an exciting phase for us. We’ve also revamped our CPD sessions, splitting them into two distinct areas: BSL Teacher’s Lounge and BSL TeachHub. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re delighted with the progress in professional development.

Membership Growth

Our membership has grown by over 100 members this year, which is a significant achievement. We’re committed to further expanding our community and enhancing the value we offer to all our members.

BSL Horizon Conference

We’re gearing up for the BSL Horizon Conference in Manchester, scheduled for April. Ticket sales are going strong, and we’re excited about the event. It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for networking and learning.

Financial Updates

Financially, we’ve had a solid year. We invested heavily in revamping our website, a request from our members. The new site launched in October, and the feedback has been very positive. It now features enhanced access to CPD resources, so we encourage you to check it regularly for new updates and materials.

Membership Structure Changes

Three new membership levels have been introduced: Associate, Member, and Fellow. The Fellow level will be launched later this year, and we’d love your input on what benefits it should offer. We’ll be holding a roundtable discussion to gather your thoughts.

New Membership Payment System

We’ve introduced an automatic renewal option for membership payments, making the process smoother and more convenient for everyone. Additionally, we’re excited to announce that Matt Jenkins has been appointed as the new Chair, taking over from the Secretary role.

Farewell to Emma

Emma is stepping down as Chair after ten years of dedicated service. This AGM was her last as Chair, and we want to thank her for all her hard work and commitment over the past decade. Her leadership has been invaluable to our growth and success.

Looking Ahead

We’re looking forward to our next AGM, which will again be held via Zoom. Thank you to all the members who attended this year’s meeting and contributed to our continued success.
