We had the honour of spending time with Gillian Stringers, whose wisdom and experiences have greatly impacted our ABSLTA community. Her insights have inspired us to reach new heights.

Gillian is the longest-serving member and was a committee member for many years. She is a treasured advocate for ABSLTA and has worked hard to maintain high teaching standards. After many years of volunteering, she officially stepped down in 2022. At our 34th AGM, held at City Lit in London, Gillian generously donated £100 to ABSLTA.

To thank her, Emma, our Chair, and Judith, our Membership Officer and Treasurer, visited Gillian in Surrey, England’s most densely wooded county. They had a wonderful day with Gillian, her partner, and her dog. Gillian talked about her time with ABSLTA (previously ABLSLT, with ‘T’ standing for ‘tutor’ rather than ‘teacher’) and her participation in the STTC course at the University of Durham. She fondly remembered her five-course buddies, the ‘fab five,’ who often met up and had fun together. Gillian also shared a photo from her first AGM in Manchester, which inspired us to celebrate our 35th AGM in Manchester, honouring that special moment and historical milestone for ABSLTA.

Although retired from teaching and no longer active with the committee, Gillian remains a valued member of ABSLTA. Her passion for our organisation is clear, and we are thankful for her continued support.

Gillian holds a special place in our hearts and in ABSLTA. We wish her a peaceful and enjoyable retirement and extend our heartfelt thanks for all her hard work.
